POLITICAL analyst James Chai appeared for a second time at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya today to have his statement recorded in connection with an ongoing investigation into a RM1.11 billion semiconductor project.

Chai, who previously served as an aide to former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, arrived at approximately 9.45am in the same vehicle used during his previous visit.

Dressed in dark clothing, he briefly waved to members of the media as he entered the MACC premises.

A group of journalists and photographers had gathered outside the MACC headquarters as early as 9am to cover his arrival and the ongoing investigation.

His appearance today follows an earlier lengthy session on Thursday, which reportedly lasted more than eight hours as part of continued efforts by investigators to gather further statements.

It is understood that Chai was released by investigating officers at around 6.30pm after arriving at 9.45am on his first day of questioning in relation to the same case.

The investigation concerns a government-supported semiconductor project valued at RM1.11 billion, with authorities also recording statements from multiple witnesses, including officials from the Ministry of Economy and related agencies such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).

To date, a total of 17 witnesses have had their statements recorded as part of the ongoing probe. - April 29, 2026
