PUTRAJAYA, Aug 21 — A former Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chief executive officer has reportedly been remanded for seven days to assist an investigation stemming from the findings of the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the pilgrims’ fund.
Berita Harian reported that Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah issued the remand order, which runs until August 27, after allowing an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court this morning.
The unidentified man, who is reportedly in his 60s, arrived at the court at 9.38am wearing orange lock-up attire and handcuffs while being escorted by MACC officers.
Berita Harian reported that the former CEO is also a prominent corporate figure who previously held positions at several leading companies.
Separately, Malay Mail reported on August 15 that MACC had detained seven people in investigations arising from the RCI report, comprising a shipping company CEO, two company directors and four former members of TH’s senior management.
The 252-page RCI report, which examined TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020, was declassified and released on July 29, four years after it was completed.
Among its recommendations were amendments to the Tabung Haji Act 1995 to bar active politicians from serving as directors of TH and its subsidiaries, and to introduce expertise requirements for board members.
