Ex-Tabung Haji COO’s court case adjourned to Sept 24 after hospitalisation for a heart condition; MACC probe links to TH RCI report findings.
SHAH ALAM: Proceedings against a former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) have been postponed to Sept 24 as he is undergoing examination and treatment for a heart condition.
Lawyer Wan Azwan Aiman Wan Fakhruddin, representing the former COO, informed the court that his client could not attend today’s proceedings because he had been admitted to the UM Specialist Centre (UMSC) since Aug 31.
He said his client is undergoing serial electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings and required hospitalisation on the advice of a cardiologist at the medical centre.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin left it to the court’s discretion whether the charges should be read out today in the accused’s absence.
Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud subsequently adjourned the case to Sept 24 for the charges to be read.
“The court is of the view that it is not feasible for him (the former COO) to be present in court as he is currently undergoing medical examinations and treatment for a heart condition,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wan Azman Aiman, when met outside the court, said that his client would be charged with three counts of corruption under Section 165 of the Penal Code.
Previously, the MACC had obtained remand orders against 11 individuals to assist in the investigation concerning the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
Those remanded included the former TH chairman, former chief executive officer (CEO), a former minister, as well as several senior management personnel and individuals linked to related companies.
