FOUR factories in the Jalan 5 industrial area of Kampung Olak Lempit, Banting, were engulfed by fire late Wednesday night, with two buildings completely destroyed, authorities confirmed.
Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, Assistant Director of Operations at the Selangor branch of the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), said the department received reports of the blaze at 10.03 pm and immediately deployed firefighting teams to the scene.
“The fire involved a factory processing oil, where explosions occurred, prompting a defensive suppression approach. Firebreak measures successfully prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent factories,” he said.
He added that the fire later spread to two additional factories around 1.15 am but was contained before causing further damage.
“Two factories were completely destroyed by the blaze, while the remaining two suffered partial damage of five and one per cent respectively. Fortunately, no casualties were reported,” Ahmad Mukhlis said in a statement Thursday.
The fire response involved units from the Banting Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by teams from KLIA, Dengkil, Cyberjaya, Bangi, Petaling Jaya, Presint 7 (Putrajaya), and Nilai in Negeri Sembilan. Volunteer fire brigades from Sri Serdang and Rantau Panjang also assisted, alongside the Royal Malaysia Police and the Ministry of Health.
Authorities praised the coordinated effort for preventing the fire from spreading further and said investigations into the cause of the blaze are ongoing. - January 15, 2026
