An oil processing factory in Banting, Selangor, caught fire last night (14 January) and was completely destroyed.
Tragically, while extinguishing the flames, firefighters discovered three charred remains inside the premises.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, stated that the incident occurred at a factory in Kampung Olak Lempit, Banting.
JBPM received an emergency call at 10:03 PM, and the bodies were discovered at approximately 2:30 AM today during the overhaul stage.
Three other neighbouring factories were also affected
The oil processing factory, a Class B structure measuring approximately 200 x 150 square feet, was 100% destroyed. Ahmad added that the blaze also razed an adjacent polymer factory. Meanwhile, a used oil factory sustained about 5% damage, and another unidentified factory was 1% burned.
JBPM personnel successfully established firebreaks to prevent the flames from spreading further before bringing the fire under control at around 1:15 AM.
A total of 69 JBPM personnel from various stations, including KLIA, Dengkil, Cyberjaya, and Negeri Sembilan, were deployed to the scene. The operation utilised four Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles, two water tankers, three Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) units, and one Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP), as reported by Sinar Harian.
The cause of the massive fire is still under investigation
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH) were also on-site to assist.
