
TAWAU: Four men were injured, including one who was seriously trapped in a road accident involving a Perodua Aruz and a lorry laden with palm oil tanks at Jalan Tawau-Kalabakan at about 4.30am, on Wednesday.
Tawau district police chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin, said the victims comprised of the Aruz driver, 28, along with three male passengers aged between 26 and 32 years, while the lorry driver, 38, was unhurt.
It happened when the Aruz was heading to Merotai from Kalabakan and the lorry was driving from Tawau town to Luasong to pick up a load of palm oil.
“When arriving at the scene, the Aruz driver lost control and entered the opposite lane and collided with a lorry.

Read more “As a result of the accident, the driver was trapped in the driver’s side and was successfully removed with the help of the personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department,” he said, adding that all the victims were rushed to the hospital.
Jasmin added that police are still investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Act Road Transport 1987.
Meanwhile, Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Jemishin Ujin, said three of the four victims were successfully helped out by members of the public, while the victims stuck in the vehicle were removed by his team using special equipment.
He said the department’s Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) team provided initial treatment to the victims involved before being sent to Tawau Hospital by ambulance.
Earlier, Jemishin said, BBP Tawau received an emergency call regarding the incident at 5.09 am through MERS999.
He said a team of eight officers and personnel along with two fire engines were deployed to the location as far as 76 kilometers (km) and arrived at 6.18 am.
After making sure there was no other danger at the location, he said the team ended the operation at 6.50 am.
The operation was also assisted by three members of the Kalabakan Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) and the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM).
