TAWAU: A 44-year-old pedestrian believed to be mentally ill was killed after being hit by a lorry at Mile 3 Jalan Apas at 4.30am, Thursday.

District police chief here, ACP Jasmin Hussin said the man was reported to have died at the scene due to severe head injuries while the lorry driver, 45, was unhurt.

According to him, the accident occurred when the lorry driver was heading from Taman Kuhara Jaya towards Pekan Semporna.

“While the lorry was on the right lane, a pedestrian appeared out of a sudden. The driver could not avoid hitting the man,” he said, Friday.

He said investigation would be conducted under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
