
Four districts in Kedah are experiencing a level 2 heatwave, with several other states also recording elevated temperatures
KUALA LUMPUR: Four districts in Kedah have recorded level 2 heatwave conditions as of 4pm. The affected areas are Baling, Pendang, Pokok Sena and Kota Setar.
Level 1 heatwaves were also recorded in several other locations across the country. In Kedah, these include Bandar Baharu, Kulim, Kuala Muda, Sik, Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu and Pulau Langkawi.
The state of Perlis and the Utara district in Penang are also experiencing level 1 conditions. The affected areas in Perak are Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Hulu Perak, while Lubok Antu in Sarawak is also listed.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), a level 2 heatwave is declared when an area records a maximum daily temperature between 37 to 40 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days. A level 1 heatwave is designated for temperatures between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius over the same period.
