SEVEN districts in Peninsular Malaysia are currently under a Level 2 heatwave alert as soaring temperatures continue to affect the northern and central regions, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported this morning.

The affected areas include Perlis; Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Sik and Baling in Kedah; and Hulu Perak in Perak. Level 2, or heatwave status, is declared when daily maximum temperatures reach between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.

In addition, MetMalaysia noted that 13 other districts are under Level 1, or cautionary, status, signalling maximum temperatures between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius over a similar three-day period.

These include Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Pulau Langkawi, Kuala Muda and Kulim-Bandar Baharu in Kedah; the northeastern and northern areas of Penang; Selama, Kinta, Kuala Kangsar and Perak Tengah in Perak; and Jerantut in Pahang.

The meteorological authority advised residents to remain vigilant, stay hydrated, and limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight while the heatwave persists. - March 28, 2026
