A 19-YEAR-OLD student has died from severe injuries sustained in a major road accident involving 15 motorcycles on the North-South Expressway near Seremban in the early hours of yesterday.
The victim, a student from Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM) Bangi and originally from Bayan Lepas, Penang, was pronounced dead at approximately 12.30am at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital Tuanku Jaafar (HTJ), Seremban.
His remains were transferred to the Forensic Medical Unit at Hospital Rembau for a post-mortem examination.
The incident was confirmed by Negeri Sembilan Police Chief, Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof, in a brief statement to Buletin TV3.
Earlier, the media had reported that three individuals died at the scene, two were critically injured, and 10 others sustained various injuries following the collision involving a convoy of motorcyclists.
Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir said the crash occurred at around 2.30am near the Seremban/Labu Toll Plaza on the northbound side of the expressway.
He stated that the collision is believed to have occurred after a group of 13 motorcyclists collided among themselves, causing several riders to lose control and crash.
Initial reports indicated that three individuals died on-site, with their bodies sent to Hospital Rembau. The remaining 12 injured individuals, including two in critical condition, were treated at HTJ in Seremban.
All victims are reported to be aged between 18 and their early 20s.
The accident involved 15 vehicles in total, including motorcycles, a car, and a lorry. Police investigations are ongoing, with statements being recorded from the drivers of the car and lorry involved.
Meanwhile, the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has clarified that it was not involved in organising the convoy, which included students from KPTM Bangi and the German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) Kajang.
In a statement, MARA said the convoy was an unofficial initiative, informally organised by the students themselves as a casual activity.
The police are continuing to probe the full circumstances surrounding the crash. - July 26, 2025
