Francesco Bagnaia has worked alongside two of the most influential figures in MotoGP, Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi. In a recent interview, the Italian shared what he’s learned from both and highlighted some surprising similarities between the two rivals.

As a long-standing member of the VR46 Riders’ Academy, Bagnaia has benefited greatly from Rossi’s experience. The programme was set up to support young Italian riders, and Bagnaia has made the most of that guidance throughout his career.

With two MotoGP world titles to his name as of 2026, Bagnaia stands out as the most accomplished rider to come through the academy.

Speaking to GPOne between the opening two rounds of the 2026 MotoGP season, Francesco Bagnaia reflected on how his career has been shaped by several legendary figures he’s worked with along the way.

That list includes not only Rossi and Marquez but also Casey Stoner, who was the first rider to bring a MotoGP title back to Borgo Panigale.

“I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity,” Bagnaia said. “In sporting terms, Valentino has definitely been the person who has helped me the most, along with Carlo [Casabianca], my trainer.”

“I try to get the most out of everyone. Casey has been there for me at times, and his help makes all the difference. Having Marc in the pits is a plus; I can look at his data and talk to him.”

When asked what he’s learned from each of those icons, Bagnaia pointed out one trait that both Marquez and Rossi share despite their well-known rivalry.

He explained: “Vale and Marc have one thing in common: determination. On the track, they’ll fight tooth and nail to stay ahead of you.

“I’ve never raced against Casey, but he had incredible flair; he made the difference by managing to adapt to different situations.”

Francesco Bagnaia doesn’t think Marc Marquez needs to resolve his feud with Valentino Rossi

As a close supporter of Rossi, Bagnaia has naturally been asked about the ongoing tension between the MotoGP icon and Marquez.

Back then, he sided with Rossi, but over the years, as he matured into a world champion himself, Bagnaia’s perspective broadened.

When asked if he thought Marquez and Rossi would ever put their differences aside, Bagnaia gave a straightforward answer. He said he doesn’t believe there’s any real need for them to do so.
