One of the greatest films in cinematic history, The Godfather, will be screened in a unique live concert experience with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO), at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS. Taking place on Saturday, 14 June 2025, at 8pm, this one-night-only event will feature the film accompanied by a live performance of Nino Rota’s iconic score by the MPO, conducted by Gerard Salonga.

Titled The Godfather LIVE, this cinematic concert marks the first time the classic film will be presented in such a format in Malaysia. Produced by CineConcerts, the performance combines the emotional depth of live orchestral music with the immersive storytelling of Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 masterpiece. Audiences will watch The Godfather in high-definition on a big screen while the MPO performs the score in real time.

Winner of three Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor for Marlon Brando, The Godfather tells the story of the powerful Corleone crime family and the transformation of Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino. The film also stars James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, and John Cazale, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made.

Nino Rota’s score is an essential part of the film’s legacy. Blending classical themes with Italian folk and jazz influences, the music is instantly recognizable — particularly the mournful trumpet melody that opens the film. The American Film Institute ranked Rota’s score fifth in its list of greatest film scores of all time.

“This event is a celebration of cinematic and musical artistry,” said Justin Freer, producer and conductor of The Godfather LIVE. “To experience this film with a live orchestra is truly something special.”
