Freiburg captain Christian Günter was given clear instructions by his daughter before leaving for Wednesday's Europa league final against Aston Villa in Istanbul.
"My daughter shouted after me briefly in kindergarten: 'Score a goal!'" Günter, 33, told a news conference on Tuesday.
His daughter also knows Freiburg have never won a major trophy.
"She explicitly said again that we should definitely do that. I hope we take them all at their word," he added. His wife will watch the match in the stadium.
Freiburg coach Julian Schuster also spoke of his family ahead of the biggest game in the club's history, saying they had flown out ahead of the team.
"Of course football plays a big role in our household and in recent weeks everything has of course been very emotional, including for the children," said Schuster, who has four kids.
"All the nicer that they can now be here too. It really means so much to me when I then see the photos, the videos, what is already happening on the plane."
Villa are big favourites but Schuster does not care.
"Now it is up to us tomorrow evening to make sure we take this last step," Schuster said, aware victory would send the Germans to the Champions League for the first time.
