French Open history-maker crashes out in first round at Wimbledon

  • Maja Chwalinska, who recently made history as a qualifier reaching the Roland Garros final, was knocked out in the first round of Wimbledon.
  • She was defeated by Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew, despite Chwalinska entering the tournament as the 20th seed.
  • Chwalinska had become the first player to advance to the French Open final as a qualifier, where she lost to Mirra Andreeva while ranked 114th in the world.
  • Due to her historic run, the Polish player was in the rare position of requiring a wildcard to play Wimbledon but still entered the draw as a seeded player.
  • The 24-year-old lost to Sawangkaew, who is ranked 164th in the world, in three sets with a score of 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
