Slides undercover of night. Beats by the beach. A little fire. A little dance.
What could go wrong?
Apparently, everything!—as she was unshakeably unfazed by Malaysia’s most thrilling waterpark.
When Nothing Impressed Her
I brought her to SplashMania at Gamuda Cove, eyes gleaming with hope. The plan? Let the magic of the park do the heavy lifting. Then, in for the killer moves.
First stop: Plunge—Malaysia’s tallest, steepest water slide.
“You ready?” he asked, grinning.
“Sure,” she said, adjusting her waterproof eyeliner, not a flicker of fear in sight.
We dropped. I screamed. She… yawned.
Undeterred, I guided her to Treasure Tower, the country’s biggest kids' water play zone. Water cannons blasted, kids shrieked, the splash zone exploded in laughter.
“Kinda cute,” she muttered, barely glancing up from her phone.
They floated through lazy rivers, zipped through twisting tubes, and even raced down double slides side-by-side. Still—no smile cracked, no “wow” of amazement. Not even the slightest grin.
Not Even Fire Could Melt Her Cool
As dusk gave way to deep night, we wandered into Omba’ King Cove. The drums pounded. The flames roared. Firebreathers painted arcs of heat across the sand with their blazing batons.
She folded her arms.
“It’s giving... Coachella vibes,” she shrugged.
He blinked. Okay. Time for backup.
Enter the DJ booth. Neon lights. Smoke machines. Over 60 DJs to perform over the duration of Night Splash through heart-thumping remixes. The cove turned club and the vibe was immaculate for lovebirds to strut killer moves.
I danced. She bobbed only once and rolled her eyes as if she's chaperoning a mentally challenged person. Maybe twice.
“Drinks?” she asked, flatly.
I nodded, heart sinking.
Along came Saviour of The Night!
Defeated but not destroyed, he drove them out of SplashMania just before 11pm. The night air smelled of chlorine, distant bass, and quiet disappointment. She hadn’t flinched at Plunge. Not a giggle at Treasure Tower. The firebreathers could’ve been lighting birthday candles for all she cared. Even 60 DJs couldn’t make her toe tap. But then… came a sign. A glowing shop front. A bubbling pot. A set of tables by the roadside
“You hungry?” I asked, a little shy.
“Hmm.” She tilted her head, unconvinced.
Moments later, We sat with faces glowing from the heat of chili oil and fluorescent lights. Ordered Biang Biang noodles.
She slurped one impossibly long ribbon of hand-pulled glory, spring onions clinging, soaked in szechuan sauce.
Her expression changed.
“Wait… this is so good,” she said, her voice cheerful, cheeks full like a cartoon bunny mid-munch, and head tilting left to right to left.
There it was—First smile of the night.
✨ Moral of the Splash?
Everyone’s going to be dazzled by Plunge, or awed by 39 rides, or .
Not everyone wants to dance to 60 DJs or wade through wave pools till 11PM.
But sometimes, all it takes to win someone over… is the perfect Biang Biang noodles.
Still, SplashMania Night Splash was the backdrop that made it all possible—the neon chaos, the amazing performance, the failed attempts that made the noodles even better.
So maybe it wasn’t the perfect date.
But it was a real one.
