When Kristy Ting left her stable career in pharmacy, most people thought she was taking a reckless risk. She had no digital background, no savings cushion, and even had to borrow money just to enrol in a funnel design course.

But within weeks, she landed her first client and made $6,000 online — proving that starting from scratch wasn’t just possible, it was powerful.

Kristy didn’t set out to be a funnel designer. “I didn’t choose it — it chose me,” she laughs. “I was just looking to make a little money on the side while still working as a pharmacist. But as I got into it, I realised I was actually good at it — and that I really enjoyed the work.”

Her decision to leave healthcare wasn’t spontaneous. It was the result of years of mounting frustration — from needing permission to pick up a sick child from school, to having her salary capped despite strong performance. “I realised I’d need to work into my 70s just to cover my kids’ uni fees. That wasn’t the future I wanted.”

Career Reboot

Starting over came with fear. She and her partner had serious conversations about money, risk, and whether their family could manage during leaner months. At one point, they even considered moving their children from private to government school to cut costs.

With no digital experience, Kristy threw herself into learning — and showing up. She joined Facebook groups, posted online, reached out to people directly, and focused on building genuine relationships.

“The key is sincerity,” she says. “Don’t just add people to pitch them — be genuinely interested in who they are. When you show up consistently and authentically, people notice.”

That approach quickly paid off. As her client base grew, so did her reputation. But soon, people weren’t just asking for funnels — they wanted to know how she built her business.

A Focus And A Mission

In response, Kristy created Side Gig Accelerator (SGA) — a mentorship programme designed to help people build online income ethically, sustainably, and with dignity. It started with just five participants in a beta round. “Four of the five made money almost immediately. That was my proof it could work.”

Today, SGA includes students from all walks of life — from healthcare professionals and teachers to retirees in their 70s. Kristy believes success online isn’t limited by age, background, or technical skills.

“People worry about getting clients — but that’s rarely the real issue. If you show up and do the work, clients will come. The real question is: can you deliver? Are you committed to getting better?”

Her biggest advice for anyone considering a side gig? Stick with it.

“Most people give up within the first nine months. But if you can push through that, you’re in the game. Honestly, success is 10% strategy, 90% mindset.”

At the core of her journey is a reminder that you don’t have to settle.

“You only get one life. Why stay stuck in something that drains you? If you’re willing to learn and show up, the opportunities are out there. The world is your oyster — just go for it.”
