Chwalinska handed Wimbledon wildcard after reaching French Open final
Maja Chwalinska is set to continue her impressive season with a spot at Wimbledon, having been handed a wildcard entry into the main draw.
The 24-year-old is the only non-British player among the women’s singles wildcards this year, adding another chapter to her breakout season.
Her entry comes just weeks after she made a remarkable run to the French Open final, where she lost to Mirra Andreeva in what was still a standout performance. Iga Swiatek was among those who praised Chwalinska’s journey in Paris, especially considering she started as a qualifier and made it all the way to the final.
Now, attention turns to SW19, where Chwalinska will look to build on her momentum. The Polish left-hander has already captured plenty of fans this year with her clever shot selection and calm presence on court. Her invitation gives her another chance to showcase those skills against some of the world’s best players.

Maja Chwalinska makes tennis history with Wimbledon wildcard
Chwalinska will become the first wildcard in Wimbledon history to be seeded and the first at any Grand Slam in the Open Era.
It’s a rare situation, but after her incredible run in Paris, she has more than earned it. Chwalinska entered Wimbledon as a world number 114, meaning she would have needed to qualify again to reach the main draw.
Now, though, that won’t be necessary. Her French Open performance has already paid off, as she is now ranked 21st on the WTA tour.
How will Maja Chwalinska handle pressure at Wimbledon?
Chwalinska’s rise to prominence is an impressive one, but it may come with additional pressure given her current standing. She played freely as a qualifier in Paris, but that success is sure to draw more attention at SW19.
The 24-year-old has already shown she can compete at the top level, with only eighth seed Andreeva managing to stop her run in France.
Still, there will be added scrutiny, especially since all other women’s singles wildcards have gone to British players.
If that happens, much of the attention would likely shift away from Chwalinska and onto Williams, which could play into the Pole’s hands.
