Kota Kinabalu: Federation of Sabah Industries (FSI) Council Member, Dato’ Kalina Wong Ka Yee, made Sabah proud when she brought home two silvers and three bronze medals in the Malaysia Culinary World Cup 2023, which was held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre from Feb 21-23.

The event has also been inscribed in the World Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest culinary competition.

The five medals are for the following categories: Malaysia Gastronomy Ikan Asam Pedas (Silver), Malaysia Gastronomy – Ikan Sungai Malaysia (Bronze), Indian cuisine – Indian Curry (Bronze), Chinese cuisine – Modern Chinese Fish (Bronze) and Modern Hot Kitchen Modern Main Course – Fish (Silver).

It was not surprising that she began cooking at an early age as it was one of her hobbies.

She said that Sabahan cuisine contributed in her five winning dishes.

She thanked the assistance and encouragement of FSI President Richard Lim and added: “I thank him for the support and for encouraging me to take part in this event.

Kalina, who was overjoyed and proud to share her success with her family and FSI, expressed her hope that with her talent and FSI, the food and beverage industry can experience significant growth.

Meanwhile, Richard said FSI always encourages its members, especially the young ones to do their best in the industry.

“FSI has always supported young entrepreneurs, especially Sabahans, to pursue their dreams,” he said.
