Kota Kinabalu: A 29-year-old furniture supplier claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to an illegal bank transaction charge involving RM16,400.
Elson Madus pleaded not guilty before Judge Hurman Hussain to allegedly executing an unlawful debit transaction through his Maybank account in Karamunsing at 1.29pm on March 18 this year.
Framed under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code, the charge carries an imprisonment term of between three and 10 years, a fine of between RM10,000 and RM150,000, or both, upon conviction.
The court fixed Nov 25 this year for mention to facilitate the submission of relevant documents and granted Elson bail at RM5,000 in two local sureties after he pleaded for a reduction from the RM15,000 proposed by the prosecution.
Hurman also ordered the unrepresented accused, who indicated he would appoint counsel, to report to the nearest police station once every two weeks pending the disposal of the case prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Bryan Francis.
