Kuala Lumpur: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah’s (Gagasan) Women’s Information Chief Annabell Perian was sworn in as a Senator for a three-year term effective Tuesday.

She thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for their trust and Gagasan Women’s Chief Datuk Redonah Bahanda for her recommendation.

“I will make full use of my experience so that the voice of the people, especially on Sabah issues, are highlighted better and more effectively,” she said in a statement.

Annabell, 45, has a Bachelor’s Degree (Industrial & Labour Relations) from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.

Kunak Assemblywoman Datuk Norazlinah Arif said Annabell’s appointment was another success and recognition for women in this country.

Norazlinah said it proves that women have the same potential and ability in leadership as men.

“This also proves that the state and federal governments recognise the role of women.”

Norazlinah said the appointment also proves the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) State Government is very concerned about women’s issues compared to the previous leadership.

“In the Sabah Legislative Assembly, Gagasan has appointed Datuk Amisah Yasin as a Nominated Assemblyman and Annabell Perian as Senator.

“This did not happen in the previous state government where there were no women in the list of appointed assemblymen or female senators.

“This clearly proves Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor recognises the role of women in Sabah,” said Norazlinah.
