Garmin’s online services are down, leaving users unable to upload their activities.
The Connect service, which is used to attach its devices such as watches and bike computers and the internet, is offline.
“Garmin Connect is currently experiencing an outage,” visitors to the version on the web are told. “We are working to resolve it as quickly as possible and apologize for the inconvenience.”
The company’s website confirms that the Connect service as well as other platforms – such as golf and diving focused products – is down. The problems mean that activity uploads are broken, it confirms, meaning that exercise recorded on watches and other products cannot be sent to the internet.
Unusually, the connect page is not working properly but is available to visitors. Users can still existing data and use it to look at historical information as usual.
But new data will not upload properly and watches may be unable to sync with phones. Any activities that have been recorded are likely to be uploaded to Garmin and then onto other services such as Strava when the service is back online.
Strava – which can be synced with Garmin devices, so that any tracked activities are automatically uploaded to the sports social network – tracks the number of uploads on its service through a separate service page. But that part of the Strava website was not loading as properly, meaning that it was not possible to see how much of a difference any problems at Garmin were making.
As with all online services, Garmin Connect suffers occasional outages because of technical issues with its platforms. But Garmin was hit by a somewhat infamous outage in 2020, when the company’s websites went down in a ransomware attack that also stopped its devices working properly for days.
