Garmin Malaysia has just introduced its latest Descent S1 Buoy, engineered to improve communication and safety for divers and surface teams alike.
Weighing just 2 pounds and rated IPX8 waterproof up to 10 meters, the new Descent S1 Buoy integrates Garmin’s SubWave sonar networking to connect seamlessly with compatible Garmin dive computers.
This allows topside crews to track and monitor up to eight divers, exchange preset messages, and receive critical updates such as diver location, tank pressure, and remaining decompression time when used with the Descent T2 transceiver.
Furthermore, divers can see the distance and direction to the buoy, helping them navigate back to it whether it’s tethered, anchored, or drifting. Diver-to-surface and diver-to-diver messaging is also extended with the buoy, enabling clear communication underwater within a range of up to 100 meters.
After surfacing, divers can sync with the Garmin Dive app via Wi-Fi (up to 60 meters) to review dive data, including underwater heatmaps showing their route.
With up to 15 hours of battery life, remote diver monitoring, and surface-to-diver messaging, the Descent S1 Buoy empowers both divers and surface crews with real-time awareness and efficient communication, ensuring a safer and more connected diving experience.
Pricing and Availability
Coming at a premium price of RM10,879, the new Garmin Descent S1 Buoy is set to launch in the Malaysian market starting August 2025.
