Gensan foils Pasig, retains South lead in MPBL

MANILA, Philippines — The Gensan Warriors withstood Pasig City's final rally and tallied an 81-80 victory on Saturday in the SportsPlus MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) 2026 Season at the Olivarez College Gym in Paranaque.

Behind, 75-80, Pasig threatened following two free throws by Keith Pido and a layup by Jacob Galicia with 6.4 seconds left.

Gensan's Larry Rodriguez missed two charities with 3.8 seconds to go, and Galicia snagged the rebound.

Pasig, however, couldn't make an attempt, and Gensan improved its record to 14-2 in the South division.

Hesed Gabo delivered 14 points, eight in the fourth quarter, 3 rebounds and 3 assists and was chosen the SportsPlus best player over Val Acuna, who posted 14 points, laced with 4 triples, and 3 rebounds.

They drew support from Fontanilla with 9 points and RJ Minerva with 8 points and 8 rebounds.

Pasig slid to 7-5 despite Galicia's 15 points and 10 rebounds, Jerome Garcia's 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, Ahron Estacio's 11 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 2 steals, Warlo Batac's 11 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists, and Jerlad Bautista's 10 points plus 2 rebounds.

With Galicia firing 10 points and Batac adding 9, Pasig took the half, 41-38.

The tournament returns to the Paco Arena on Monday, featuring games between Pasay and Ilagan Isabela at 4 p.m., Caloocan and Paranaque at 6 p.m., and Cebu and Quezon City at 8 p.m. TMT
