German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul calls on Iran to stop “irresponsible” attacks, announces new aid, and reaffirms support for Ukraine.
BERLIN: German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Friday called on Iran to cease launching what he termed “irresponsible” attacks on third countries.
He stated, however, that he saw no imminent threat to the NATO alliance from the current situation.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Dutch counterpart, Wadephul announced nearly 100 million euros (RM515 million) in additional humanitarian aid for the region.
He warned that countries must work to ensure population displacements in the Middle East do not escalate into a new wave of refugees.
“It is completely unjustified that Iran is attacking uninvolved states that did not participate in the attacks against Iran,” Wadephul said.
The minister also reaffirmed that Ukraine remains Germany’s top security priority.
He called on Hungary to stop blocking European Union aid to the war-torn country.
