Germany and Israel held a joint military exercise in the waters off the city of Haifa on Thursday.
Prior to the exercise, a German navy vessel had docked in the port of Haifa, the Israeli military said.
The visit represented "a further step towards strengthening professional and operational relations between the two navies," it said.
German commander Volker Kübsch, who oversees the 4th Frigate Squadron, and the commander of the German vessel, Rico Geisler, met the commander of the Haifa Naval Base, Rear Admiral Eres Ben Zion.
Military cooperation between Israel and Germany encompasses not only defence projects but also joint exercises and reciprocal visits. The German Navy maintains close relations with various partners in the Mediterranean region.
Israel currently has five submarines built in Germany, and further deliveries have been agreed. The procurement is considered controversial, as experts believe the submarines could, in theory, be capable of deploying nuclear weapons.
German military support for Israel has also long been at the centre of controversy due to Israel's actions in the occupied Palestinian Territories. Last year during the war in Gaza, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz temporarily issued a partial arms export ban for weapons that could be used in the Gaza Strip.
The ban was lifted some three and a half months later following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Palestinian extremist group Hamas.
