Germany's players welcomed having a recovery day on Thursday in the run-up to their first World Cup match against Curaçao.
The heat is likely to be a factor at the North American tournament and coach Julian Nagelsmann scheduled only a light session just three days before their opener in Houston. The players then had a free afternoon.
"I actually found out on Monday or Tuesday that we'd be doing a bit less on Thursday," defender Nico Schlotterbeck told a news conference.
"We had an extremely long, extremely intense training session yesterday. We did a lot, we played a lot of 11 against 11. That's why the day off personally does me a lot of good. I'm really happy about it."
Left back David Raum has been looking around his new digs.
"Here we have a lot of time for ourselves," the RB Leipzig man said about the team hotel The Graylyn Estate, which is in the countryside and is a big difference to rowdy Chicago, where they beat co-hosts the US in a warm-up.
"We have a basketball court, a table tennis table. We have a players' lounge where there is a games console, where there is also a table where you can play cards."
The leisure programme now also includes watching the first World Cup matches together.
Despite enjoying the rest, Schlotterbeck is ready for the football to get under way.
"That's why we're here," the 26-year-old said.
Schlotterbeck also said he has heard about supposed interest from new Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho but was concentrating on the World Cup.
"Yes, of course you pick something like that up through the media but basically I've said it before, a few weeks ago, the complete focus is now on the World Cup, on the first match," the 26-year-old Borussia Dortmund centre back said.
He extended his contract with Dortmund until 2031 in April despite offers from other clubs.
