The song "Major Tom" by Peter Schilling will also be played when Germany score goals at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, the German Football Federation (DFB) announced on Friday.

The 1982 hit has long been played by Germany at home matches and now world football body FIFA has agreed to its use in North America, along with two other songs submitted by the DFB.

Germany open their Group E campaign against debutants Curaçao in Houston on Sunday.

All participating nations have been able to submit their own songs to FIFA to boost the stadium atmosphere.
