AllStar Legends exhibition match returns to Bukit Jalil with Gerrard and other football icons on Oct 3.
FOOTBALL fans in the capital are set for a nostalgic yet fiercely competitive spectacle as AllStar Sports Sdn Bhd officially announced the return of the AllStar Legends exhibition match between Premier Legends and World Legends at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Oct 3.
The event, which brings together some of football’s most iconic names, was unveiled during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, with organisers promising a high-energy encounter designed to reconnect supporters with some of the game’s greatest stars.
Among those present were former Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard, World Football Legends director Ian Holahan and AllStar Sports project director Steven Windsor.
Windsor said the event is about more than football, describing it as an opportunity to unite communities while celebrating the passion fans continue to show for the sport.
“Sports have always been a bridge that connects communities, and football holds a special place in our hearts.
“Events like this do not just celebrate the players…they celebrate the fans, whose passion and love for the game make football truly unforgettable,” he said.
Despite the exhibition nature of the match, Gerrard insisted that the players would remain highly competitive once they stepped onto the pitch.
“There’s always a winner at the end of any game. When you’ve competed at a certain level, that desire to win never really leaves you. It’s always there,” he said.
“I’ve played in plenty of so-called friendly exhibition matches, but once that first whistle goes, all the friendly stuff stops. From there, it’s game on.
“Nobody’s messing about, nobody’s just here for the photos, and for more than 90 minutes, it’s proper football.
“That competitive edge honestly never goes away.”
The AllStar Premier Legends squad is set to include Jaap Stam, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Ian Harte, while the AllStar World Legends side will feature Dida, Javier Saviola and Maicon.
Ticket details and the full line-up will be announced closer to match day.
