Head coach Tim Cone was pleased to see his team gradually showcase its potential.
The Filipino cagers knocked down 16 three-pointers en route to a 31-point winning margin, a crucial advantage under the quotient system.
“We played better and defended at a high level,” Cone said.
Jerrick Ahanmisi led Gilas’ strong offensive attack with 22 points, while Robert Bolick battled through an injury to finish with 20 points.
The Philippines will now turn its full attention to China, which remains undefeated in the tournament.
Ahanmisi and Bolick will be joined by Calvin Oftana, Justine Baltazar, Zav Lucero and Sedrick Barefield as Gilas seeks to contain the Chinese squad.
“Time to move on and focus on China. No time to celebrate,” Cone said.
