
MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas women posted their highest finish at the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup at The Kallang in Singapore on Easter Sunday evening.
The quartet of Cheska Apag, Afril Bernardino, Mikka Cacho, and Kacey Dela Rosa secured the silver after stunning Japan in the semifinal, 21-19.
The Philippines could not pull off another upset in the final, though, as Australia dominated for an 18-9 win and a fourth straight crown.
The Aussies have now won six titles in nine editions of the tournament.
The Australian team is composed of Amy Atwell, Emma Clarke, Lara McSpadden, and Kristy Wallace, who also defeated Gilas in the pool play on Saturday, 21-10.
Gilas women ended the tournament with a 3-2 slate, winning over Tonga, 19-10, in the pool play, 15-12 over Mongolia in the quarterfinals, and 21-19 over Japan in the semis.
Meanwhile, Gilas men posted a quarterfinal finish after yielding to South Korea, 15-18, on Sunday afternoon.
Gilas men is composed of Jerrick Ahanmisi, Chris Koon, Ralph Cu, and Sean Alter.
The quartet defeated Maldives, 21-16, and Thailand, 17-15, in the qualifying round to reach the main draw.
Gilas then fell to Mongolia, 19-21, but bounced back with a 21-13 win over Taiwan to enter the knockout stage.
