BANK of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has named its consumer banking head, Maria Cristina “Ginbee” L. Go, as its next president and CEO, succeeding Jose Teodoro “TG” K. Limcaoco effective April 26, 2027.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Thursday, BPI said its board of directors had approved the succession plan, with the transition scheduled after the bank’s annual stockholders’ meeting and subject to necessary approvals.
BPI Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala said the leadership change reflected the bank’s commitment to renewal and the development of future leaders.
“I believe that leadership transitions provide us with rare opportunities to both look at what has come before, while also embracing the things that have yet to come,” Zobel de Ayala said.
He credited Limcaoco with bringing the bank to “tremendous new heights” over the past five years, citing its transformation in digital banking, financial inclusion and sustainability.
Limcaoco has led BPI since 2021, overseeing the bank’s expansion, technology modernization and digital banking initiatives. Under his leadership, BPI grew to serve more than 19 million customers nationwide and employ over 23,000 Filipinos.
Following the transition, Limcaoco will remain a member of BPI’s board and assume senior governance roles in other major operating companies of the Ayala Group. The bank said details of his new roles would be announced in due course.
Go, a 23-year BPI veteran, also currently serves as executive vice president. She previously served as president of BPI Family Savings Bank, where she led its transformation and integration into BPI.
As head of consumer banking, Go has overseen efforts to expand the bank’s customer base, strengthen its retail banking business, modernize its nationwide distribution network and accelerate digital innovation, including the adoption of artificial intelligence-enabled capabilities.
Before joining BPI, Go held leadership positions at Citibank, Ayala Land and Procter & Gamble. She is a certified public accountant and graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She placed first in the 1991 CPA Licensure Examination and earned an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.
Go currently serves on the boards of Ayala Foundation, TransUnion Philippines, BPI Direct BanKo and BPI MS Insurance Corp.
BPI reported a net income of P48.9 billion in the first nine months of 2026, supported by loan growth, higher fee-based revenues and business activity across its key segments.
Total revenues in the period went up 9.8 percent from a year earlier to P156.3 billion, with net interest income up by 11 percent to P121.1 billion and noninterest income increasing by 5.8 percent to P35.2 billion.
Established 175 years ago, BPI is the first bank in the Philippines and Southeast Asia and operates as a universal bank under the supervision of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
BPI shares on Thursday dropped P1.35, or 1.37 percent, to close at P97.00 each amid a 0.72-percent decline for the benchmark PSE index.
