Ginebra brings in new import

BARANGAY Ginebra is bringing in a new import, Jordan Murphy, when the team resumes its title chase in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup in October.

The Puerto Rican forward has built a professional career overseas following his four-year college stint at Minnesota.

Ginebra coach Tim Cone confirmed the arrival of the 29-year-old Murphy on Thursday.

Murphy is taking the spot of Riley Grigsby, who served as Ginebra’s import through the conference’s first six games.

The Gin Kings, however, are slumped at the bottom of the standings in Group B with a 2-4 record just before the league took a break to give way for the international tournaments of Gilas Pilipinas.

Grigsby averaged 31.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.6 blocks in a solid pinch-hitting job through six games stint with the Gin Kings.

Murphy, meanwhile, played previously in the NBA G League with the Iowa Wolves, Austin Spurs and Greensboro Swarm. He also played professionally in Puerto Rico and Mexico. Ginebra’s resident import Justin Brownlee continues to recuperate from multiple injuries.

Brownlee, a four-time PBA Best Import, has yet to play competitive basketball since he last saw action for Gilas Pilipinas in the third window of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers last July against New Zealand. He missed the game against Australia and didn’t play for the Philippine team in the fourth window last August, where a Kai Sotto-led national team scored victories over Jordan and Iran.

Brownlee also failed to suit up for Gilas Pilipinas in the Asian Games after failing to secure medical clearance since sustaining multiple injuries in his leg, knee and hamstring.

The Philippine team failed to defend its Asian Games crown despite fielding an all-PBA squad.

Murphy makes his Ginebra debut on Oct. 9 against Rain or Shine.
