Barangay Ginebra dominated Phoenix behind a massive second and third quarter scoring rampage to post a runaway 112-81 victory on Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City en route to advancing to the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup semifinal round.
The Gin Kings outscored the Fuel Masters, 60-25, in the middle quarters to turn a tight contest into a lopsided affair in their quarterfinal duel.
The win sets up Ginebra to a best-of-five semifinal series against Rain or Shine.
Earlier in the day, the Elasto Painters ousted the San Miguel Beermen, 113-104, in their own quarterfinal duel.
Justin Brownlee collected 24 points, five rebounds and five assists in just 25 minutes of action, before spending much of the time on the bench to rest.
Scottie Thompson and RJ Abarrientos each added 16 points.
Thompson also had nine rebounds and nine assists as the one-time league Most Valuable Player flirted in a near triple-double finish.
Ricci Rivero scored 15 points while import Johnathan Williams added 13 points and 11 boards as Phoenix saw its first conference campaign under new coach Charles Tiu come to an end.
