Kota Kinabalu: Three people, including a four-year-old girl, were killed after the motorcycle they were riding was involved in an accident with two four-wheel-drives at Km 30, Jalan Lahad Datu Tungku, on Wednesday.

District Deputy Police Chief Supt Azmir Abd Razak said the incident happened about 6.45pm when the motorcycle was heading to Lahad Datu from Tungku, while the two other vehicles were on the opposite route.

He said the 45-year-old motorcyclist and his pillion riders, a 39-year-old woman and the girl, died after colliding with a Mitsubishi Triton that was overtaking an Isuzu DMax.

“The impact of the collision caused the three to be thrown off from their motorcycle, while the motorcycle was thrown into the left lane and went under the Isuzu DMax.

“The Isuzu DMax driven by a 36-year-old man with a female passenger and a child lost control and skidded to the left of the road,” he said, Thursday.

According to Azmir, the motorcyclist and the pillion riders died at the scene while the drivers and passengers of the other two vehicles were uninjured.

“Based on investigation, the accident happened due to the negligence of the Mitsubishi Triton driver who overtook the DMax dangerously.

“Blood samples were taken from the drivers and motorcyclist for analysis,” he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Any individual with relevant information is advised to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Humaidi Harun at 089-881255 extension 414 to assist the investigation.

Azmir also advised road users to always obey road rules and regulations, as well as to be patient and careful when driving, to avoid any untoward incident.

Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station Chief Sumsoa Rashid said he received an emergency call regarding the incident at 7.02pm.

He said a team of firefighters was rushed to the location and the operation ended at 8.50pm.
