Kota Kinabalu: A teenage girl alleged she was kidnapped on Thursday in order to escape religious classes.

Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda advised the public, especially teenagers, not to make up stories about criminal cases.

“These actions can cause panic among the community. It is also an offence to make a false report,” he said in a statement.

In a post that went viral on Facebook, the girl claimed to have been kidnapped by a group of men in a white van in Tanjung Aru.

She further claimed that later she happened to get the help of an adult man, a resident of Kg Baru, before she was found by concerned members of the public at Wisma Sedco.

“The Kota Kinabalu police also advise the public not to arbitrarily upload any pictures or statements that may cause anxiety and annoyance to the public,” Kasim stressed.
