
LABUAN: An 11-year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by a car while crossing the road at Jalan Bukit Kuda near Tabika Perpaduan Kg Kilan Pulau Akar around 11.30am, Tuesday.
Labuan Police Chief Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim said the girl reportedly dashed across the road suddenly, leaving the driver no time to brake.
“She suffered severe head injuries and is currently unconscious in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital Labuan,” he said.
The driver was not under the influence of alcohol and was unhurt in the incident.
Police have opened an investigation under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 to determine the cause of the accident. Dashcam footage and other evidence are being reviewed as part of the probe.
Mohd Hamizi also reminded all road users to exercise extra caution, especially along village roads like Jalan Bukit Kuda, and to always adhere to traffic laws to avoid such accidents.
