GLASGOW, July 29 — World number one Emma Firyana Saroji started her 2026 Commonwealth Games lawn bowls campaign by winning her opening women’s singles sectional match at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) here yesterday.

Emma Firyana produced a composed performance to defeat Caroline Whitehead of the Isle of Man 2-0 to secure maximum points from her first match.

Her compatriots, Amirul Danial Abdul Rahim and Mohammad Soufi Rusli also notched their first win in the men’s pairs event as they survived a stern challenge from Malta’s Troy Lorimer and Shaun James Parnis to win the tie-break 2-0 after tying 1-1 in regulation contest.

The Malaysian lawn bowlers will continue their campaign tomorrow, with Emma Firyana taking on Zambia’s Mildred Mkandawire while the men’s pair will be up against Jersey’s Ross Davis and Malcolm de Sousa.

The two wins capped a good day for Malaysia in lawn bowling after two silver medal wins by Aleena Ahmad Nawawi and Syafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman in the women’s pairs event and Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple in the men’s singles event. — Bernama
