GMA talents win labor case vs network

MANILA, Philippines — A group of talents that filed a labor case against a TV network giant won its 11-year battle after the Supreme Court ruled in its favor.

In a statement on Saturday, the Talents Association of GMA (TAG) quoted the High Court 3rd Division as saying that "talents are regular employees,  deserving of security and statutory benefits." The ruling, which was made in July but made public this weekend, favored 94 members of TAG. .

Most of them are mostly from what is now GMA Integrated News.

“The decision also ruled that 50 of our members, whose contracts were either not renewed or terminated during the pendency of the case, were illegally dismissed. The Supreme Court awarded separation pay and backwages to the 50 illegally dismissed employees,” it added.

“We believed that since the beginning, and now there is jurisprudence to protect the next generation of media workers in the Philippines,” TAG said.

The network has yet to issue a statement as of posting time.
