KUALA LUMPUR - The Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, has expressed his displeasure with Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ismail Lasim over the ongoing royal institution crisis in the state.
In a 50-second video that has gone viral on social media, Tuanku Muhriz is seen refusing to meet Ismail, who is believed to have sought an audience with the ruler after Friday prayers at a mosque in Kuala Pilah today.
In the video, Tuanku Muhriz questioned why Ismail wanted an audience with him when the Juaseh state assemblyman had previously claimed that Tuanku Muhriz was no longer the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
“Ismail Lasim recently wrote a letter to the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, saying that the decision he made with the State Executive Council (Exco) members was valid and that I am no longer the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
“So, why has he come here today to see me?
“As long as he does not retract what he said, he should not come to see me.
“Go away, I don’t want to see you. Okay? Do you understand? I am the Yang Dipertuan Besar, and you said I am not,” Tuanku Muhriz said.

Ismail, who was dressed in a green baju Melayu, merely 'angkat sumpah' after Tuanku Muhriz reprimanded him in public.
However, the authenticity of the viral video could not be independently verified, and no statement had been issued by any party as of press time.
The Negeri Sembilan royal institution crisis escalated following the emergence of a proclamation dated April 19, which purported to remove Tuanku Muhriz and recognise Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar as the new Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
However, the validity of the proclamation was firmly rejected by the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) on July 31 and Sept 13, when it ruled that Tuanku Muhriz remained the legitimate Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
The dispute became more complicated when Tuanku Muhriz’s lawyers described the state executive councillors’ actions as an attempted “coup d’état” and contempt of court, while Undang Luak Rembau Datuk Sedia Raja Hassan Ab Hamid stressed that the state administration had no authority to override the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959.
Following this, Tuanku Muhriz revoked the appointments of the 10 Negeri Sembilan state executive councillors, effective Sept 20. The revocation was gazetted on Sept 24.
Meanwhile, the Malay Rulers recently urged outsiders not to interfere in or politicise the dispute over the Negeri Sembilan throne, calling for the matter to be resolved by the relevant authorities through proper legal and customary channels.
In a statement issued by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, on behalf of the Malay Rulers, all parties involved were urged to exercise wisdom, patience and respect for adab, adat and the dignity of the royal institution.
“The issue must never be exploited for political gain, to garner support, expand influence or advance agendas in a power struggle,” he said. – October 16, 2026
