SEN. Bong Go, accompanied by his outreach team, organized a relief operation for families affected by a fire in Barangay Southside, Taguig City, on May 28. They provided assistance to those in need, reinforcing his dedication to disaster response and recovery efforts.
Go’s team coordinated with local government officials to assess the situation on the ground and identify the urgent needs of affected residents.
“The life and health of every Filipino are important to me. As I said, we can buy things and earn money if we work hard. But life cannot be bought. Our lives are important, and Filipinos are known for helping each other,” Go said.
The relief activity was held at the Barangay Southside Hall, where four families affected by the fire received essential items, including grocery packs, vitamins, snacks, shirts, pens, and balls.
The assistance was intended to ease the burden on families as they began to recover from the incident.
In addition to the relief goods, the beneficiaries received housing assistance for rebuilding their homes.
The initiative forms part of efforts championed by Go to help disaster-stricken communities recover more quickly.
"Under this program that we are promoting, beneficiaries will be given assistance to purchase materials such as nails and iron sheets to rebuild their homes,” the senator explained.
Go emphasized the importance of strengthening disaster preparedness and response mechanisms nationwide.
He highlighted his role as principal author and co-sponsor of Republic Act (RA) 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which mandates the establishment of permanent, disaster-resilient evacuation centers in every city and municipality in the country.
The senator likewise cited RA 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021, which he principally authored and co-sponsored.
The law seeks to enhance the country’s firefighting capabilities through modern equipment, improved personnel training, and strengthened institutional support for the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Local officials expressed gratitude for the assistance extended to the affected families, noting that such support plays a crucial role in helping residents recover and rebuild their lives after calamities.
