SEN. Bong Go declared his unwavering commitment to grassroots sports development as he extended support and congratulatory messages to a city tournament.
Go’s representatives will be at the finals and awarding ceremony of the MB Cup in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City, today, Sunday.
Go thanked Quezon City councilor Mikey Belmonte for organizing the tournament and sustaining community-based sports initiatives.
The senator emphasized that sports play a vital role in steering the youth away from illegal drugs, criminality and other harmful influences while promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy living.
”I will continue to support sports — if there are sports clubs in your barangay, I will support them. That is one way to keep the youth away from bad habits,” Go said in Filipino.
”Win or lose, I am proud of all those who play with heart and with the community in mind,” he added.
Go is the author and co-sponsor of Republic Act 11470, which created the National Academy of Sports (NAS) in New Clark City, Tarlac.
The NAS integrates secondary education with a specialized sports curriculum, allowing student-athletes to pursue academic excellence while receiving intensive athletic training.
He refiled Senate Bill 413, which aims to institutionalize the Philippine National Games as the country’s premier grassroots sports competition.
The measure aims to establish a nationwide platform for discovering, developing and supporting Filipino athletic talent from the local level upward.
