PUTRAJAYA: The Attorney-General has been urged to provide an immediate and transparent update on the status of investigations into a fatal police shooting that left three men dead in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, last November.
DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo said it has been five months since the incident occurred and there appears to be a lack of definitive action against those involved.
“The gravity of this case cannot be overstated. Serious allegations have been made, and evidence, including audio recordings, has been produced to support these claims,” Gobind said in a statement.
“It is not unreasonable, under these circumstances, to call for an explanation on the status of investigations.”
Gobind, who is also the Digital Minister, said the case is a matter of public interest. He said the public has a right to know what happened, while the families of the victims are entitled to answers and justice.
“I call upon the AG to explain the status of the investigations and to state publicly whether any action will be taken against those involved, and if so, when.”
During a police operation at an oil palm plantation on Nov 24 last year, G. Logeswaran, 29, M. Puspanathan, 21, and M. Puvaneswaran, 24, were shot dead after one of them allegedly attacked police with a parang.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers had in December directed that the case be reclassified as murder.
In February, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the case was still under investigation, with police awaiting forensic and ballistic reports.
