Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo says FKW application processing issues are under review, with a solution expected within weeks following industry complaints.

BANDAR PERMAISURI: A female student of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) Gong Badak Campus, Kuala Nerus drowned while trying to save her friend who was drowning at Lata Ulu Kasar here today.

Setiu district police chief Supt Mohd Zain Mat Dris said the victim, Suraya Hassan, 22, who was from Batu Pahat, Johor, along with seven other friends from the same university, had visited the picnic spot.

He said the police received an emergency call at about 1.48 pm informing them of the incident.

“Initial investigations found that the incident occurred while the victim was taking a bath, and another friend, Nur Najwa Farina Mohamed, 25, found that her friend, identified as Adilah, was having difficulties in the pool.

“They both tried to save Adilah but Suraya drowned while Najwa also almost drowned was saved,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Zain said the surviving victim was rushed to the Setiu Hospital Emergency Unit and treated as an outpatient while Suraya’s body was sent to the same hospital’s Forensic Unit for a post-mortem.
