Good Good apologizes for controversial Callaway Golf video ad depicting violence

YouTube content creator Good Good Golf, set to serve as the title sponsor for an upcoming PGA Tour tournament this fall, faced swift criticism after publishing and then removing a promotional video for a Callaway golf driver that showed a man pushing a woman to the ground as she reached for the club.

“We posted a video to our channels that ultimately depicted actions that are not aligned with our values as a brand,” Good Good said in a statement.

“We have since taken that content down. And sincerely apologize. Good Good has always stood for making the game of golf more inclusive to all, and we will continue to ensure that is our mission moving forward.”

Both Good Good and Callaway erased the advertisement late Friday following outcry over its depiction of violence against women, although clips of the commercial continued to circulate across social media platforms after official accounts removed the post.

The video features two personalities affiliated with Good Good: Garrett Clark is seen charging toward Alexis Miestowski to knock her down, standing over her as she lies on the grass before stating, "Do not touch my new driver."

Established as a YouTube channel in 2020, Good Good Golf has evolved into one of the sport's largest digital content creators, featuring eight men and four women participating in golf matches and various skill challenges.

The company also produces made-for-TV programming, apparel, and merchandise.

Callaway Golf entered into a partnership with Good Good in 2023.

In a statement addressing the incident, Callaway Golf said, "We are disappointed by the content that was posted, and are appreciative of Good Good for addressing this. We look forward to working together to ensure a more inclusive space in golf."

The PGA Tour has progressively embraced digital content creators over recent years.

Good Good marked a major milestone this year by becoming title sponsor of the Good Good Championship, an event within the FedEx Cup Fall schedule set to be played Nov. 12-15 in Austin, Texas.

In response to the matter, the tour stated, "The PGA Tour believes in golf’s ability to bring people together and create a welcoming environment for all. We do not condone violence in any form, and the since-deleted video does not reflect our values or commitment to inclusivity and respect."
