SANDAKAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has underlined good governance as the foundation of Malaysia’s maritime security, warning that corruption and wastage can weaken even the strongest force.
He said tackling smuggling, human trafficking, drug trade, arms movement and intrusions required a disciplined maritime agency that upholds integrity.
Anwar stressed that the nation’s vast waters demanded responsibility not only from security agencies but also from citizens, politicians and businesses in recognising the sacrifices of enforcement officers.
He reminded that public funds and resources were a trust to be managed responsibly, adding that proper governance would strengthen public confidence in both government and security forces.
Anwar was speaking at the Jelajah Wira Madani programme at the Sandakan Maritime Zone Office, which featured exhibitions, community activities and demonstrations, and was attended by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and senior leaders.
