Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the State Government not only recognises the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) but is also taking follow-up measures to ensure that certificate holders are given access to education and appropriate assistance.
Hajiji said among the steps being considered is to allow UEC holders to apply for State Government Scholarships.
“We are not only recognising it, but also taking action. Just now, I whispered to the Finance Minister that we will also consider applications from these certificate holders for the Sabah State Government Scholarship,” he said.
In addition, Hajiji said the State Government is also opening opportunities for UEC graduates to further their studies at state-owned higher learning institutions, including Universiti Kolej Yayasan Sabah (UCSF) and Kolej Teknologi Yayasan Sabah (KTYS).
“I am also considering our children who have this certificate to enrol in State-owned higher education institutions such as Universiti Kolej Yayasan Sabah and Kolej Teknologi Yayasan Sabah. We are ready to accept applications from our children who hold this certificate,” he said.
He emphasised that the State Government’s priority is to understand and meet the needs of Sabah’s multi-ethnic communities regardless of background.
“As Chief Minister leading the state administration, I fully understand the problems and needs of the people. As the second largest state in Malaysia, we face many issues and challenges that we must overcome,” he said.
The recognition of the UEC is another inclusive step by the State Government to ensure fairer and more comprehensive educational opportunities for Sabah’s younger generation.
