Sabah Government assists landslide victims with insurance verification and financial aid

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Government is actively assisting families of landslide victims, with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor pledging to carefully verify their eligibility for the state’s insurance scheme.

The recent landslides, caused by heavy rainfall in Kota Kinabalu, Papar, and Penampang, claimed 13 lives, including seven children.

Hajiji said the Ministry of Finance is involved to ensure proper assessment of the victims’ eligibility under the Group Personal Accident (GPA) insurance program, which provides free coverage to eligible Sabah residents.

Additional support includes RM10,000 each from Yayasan Kebajikan and the State Government, while Suria Capital Holdings donated RM100,000 to flood victims.

He also announced a RM20,000 contribution for SK Mutiara’s school activities and reaffirmed Sabah’s authority over border security in response to questions about the Albert Tei immigration matter.
