Scotland fans have made quite an impact on the United States during the 2026 World Cup.
Competing at the tournament for the first time this century, the Tartan Army became fan favourites in Boston during their side’s first two group matches of the competition.
They then travelled to Miami for their final group clash versus Brazil, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has now commented on the Scottish fans who flocked to the state, saying that they were ‘very cheerful’.

Scotland fans were ‘very cheerful’ during Florida visit, says Ron DeSantis
He mentioned how they were all having a really good time and ‘just drinking these bars dry’.
As quoted by Florida Politics, DeSantis said: “We had all these Scottish people come, and they’re wearing the kilts, and they’re kind of like, not storming in a bad way, but like out on the streets.
“Just drinking these bars dry, like all this stuff … having a really, really good time.
“There’s no rioting, no anything like that. I mean, it was very cheerful.”
The governor also commented on how the World Cup has showcased the positive side of America to travelling supporters.
He continued: “We do have a really great country. I know there’s a lot of problems. I know we see a lot of things that we wish we could change immediately. And I know there’s a lot of work to do, but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
“I think a lot of these people who’ve been able to visit from some of these other countries have gotten to see firsthand both the generosity of the American people, but also that this is a good country. And I think that they’re acknowledging that.”
Are Scotland out of the World Cup?
At present, Scotland are on course to exit the 2026 World Cup as they are the 10th-best third-place team, with only the top eight qualifying.
It is still technically possible for the Scots to progress into the Round of 32, but it would be quite the miracle.
Scotland need Ghana to beat Croatia by at least three goals. They then need Uzbekistan to win or draw against DR Congo, and if they do win, they cannot win by more than three goals. Finally, Austria have to beat Algeria by two or more goals in their final match.
Impossible? No. Unlikely? Very much so.
