
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government has always supported the State Islamic Religious Council (Muis) in its efforts towards nourishing waqf (endowment) potential, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said this includes emphasising cooperation and involvement with various waqf industry stakeholders, both from federal and state agencies.
Additionally, he said the involvement of corporate entities to contribute to such an effort is also crucial in making Sabah a friendly and knowledgeable state in waqf by 2030.
“On this occasion, I would like to congratulate Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for being the first institution appointed as Muis cash waqf collection agent.

The text of his speech was read out by State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.
He said this in his speech at the opening of the third State-level Waqf Month and the Waqf Education Seminar titled “Waqaf Membina Generasi Berilmu”, jointly organised by Muis and UMS, here, Thursday.
The Chief Minister said the State remains committed to empowering waqf management through the creation of Madani Waqf worth RM1 billion via Budget 2023 with the development of assets comprising land, mosques, buildings and health facilities.
He said education would also be optimised to benefit the poor, the lower-income and other vulnerable groups.
In the meantime, Hajiji hopes Muis will engage more closely with the community to promote waqf understanding through educational seminars and other programs during Sabah Waqf Month.
“It is also my great hope that the waqf industry continues to be strengthened according to the current model and based on Syariah law so its benefits can be enjoyed across all levels of society, ultimately making waqf a catalyst for social and economic development,” he said.
