UMS first institution appointed Muis Cash Waqf Agent

Kota Kinabalu: The appointment of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) as the Waqf Collection Agent of the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) will help Muis to continue strengthen the empowerment of waqf potential in the State.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor said that with such UMS’s appointment, it will be able to implement sustainable development in providing the best education services to the community in this state.

“The State Government always provides support to Muis to continue strengthen the empowerment of waqf potential in Sabah.

“This includes putting emphasis on cooperation and involvement with various quarters, either from the state or federal government agencies, private or corporate who wish to contribute to the effort towards making Sabah a friendly and knowledgeable on waqf by the year 2030.

Hajiji said this in his speech when officiating the State Level Waqf month and seminar on waqf education entitled “Waqf Builds a Knowledegable Generation’ here, Thursday.

His speech was delivered by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk Dr. Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.

He said that the efforts taken by UMS are indeed commendable, especially in helping the development of education in this State.

“Therefore, any quarter that wants to make waqf in education aspect, can now be channeled to UMS, apart from MUIS itself.

“I hope that more educational institutions in Sabah will follow the initiative taken by UMS.

“It is certain that this will benefit the poor, low-income and other vulnerable groups. Congratulations to all those involved in the effort to expand waqf in the state of Sabah, especially in developing the education sector,” Hajiji said.

In the meantime, he hoped that MUIS would reach out to the community in its effort to spread understanding related to waqf as part of Islamic practices and teaching in the State.

“Therefore, it is my great hope that this waqf industry can continue to be strengthened according to the current model and based on Shariah law so that its effects can be enjoyed by all levels of society.

“In the end, this will make waqf a catalyst for the social and economic development of the community,” Hajiji said.
